Chapter One
I woke up to the sound of screaming. I covered my head with my pillow. Who would be doing vocal exercises at a time like this? Diana! Diana! I realized that the person wasn't practicing singing but was calling my name. At first, I thought it was mom. But then I remembered she was in Florida. And dad was at work so it must have been a call for help. I jumped to my feet and raced in the direction of the calls. Still in my jammies, I sprinted out the door.

"Oh Diana! Thank heavens you're here!" said an elderly woman I knew from school.
I had stopped to catch my breath near a tree and didn't realize I had arrived.
"Ma'am, I'm here to help you," I said calmly.
"My dear granddaughter has gone missing! I was supposed to babysit her while her mother was gone but when I went to check her crib this morning she was gone!"
"Oh my!" I cried. "Don't worry. I'll take care of this!"

I entered the woman's house. It was big and beautiful. Made of dark orange bricks that smelled unusually like pumpkin pie. There were many windows and a large oak door. Two plants sat on each side. The garden was massive with lots of flowers and evenly cut grass. I opened the oak door and entered.
On the inside, it looked even more impressive. It was brightly lit and had a wonderful odor. The floor was made of beautiful gray tiles and the nice tan walls were smooth and strong.
Chapter Two

I climbed up the carpeted stairs to where the baby's room was. At first glance, everything looked normal. There were toys scattered across the floor and a big closet. There were a few small chairs around and lots of pillows.
After a while of looking around, I noticed a faint smell coming from underneath the bed.
I walked over and peeked underneath. There was a knocked over baby bottle and hair.
I picked up the hair and sniffed it. It smelled horrible. This couldn't possibly be the baby's hair! And if it was, what was it doing under the crib?

Chapter three
I searched the room for more clues. After an hour I found nothing. So I decided to search the rest of the house.
When I exited the baby's room I smelled the foul odor again. It was coming from the kitchen. I went back downstairs while Smiling. Finally I was going to catch that intruder!
"Hands in the air!" I cried. But when I looked in the kitchen, no one was there. I looked around and saw a trail of bread crumbs leading

out of the kitchen.
"Haha! I'm going to catch you ya slimy little snake!" I snarled.
I raced out the door but made sure to grab a few cookies.

Chapter Four
The crumbs led me to the attic. It looked very creepy. I gulped. Attics were my least favorite part of houses.
I crept up the stairs. There was a small wooden door at the top. On three I'm going to bust open that door...
"One...two...three!"
I kicked open the door and yelled. "Freeze right there!"

But there was nothing.
I sighed. "This is hopeless! I'm going to die here and I didn't even find out the truth."
Suddenly, I heard someone giggling behind a painting of a fat woman. I sprang to my feet. Yes! It was time to kick some butt!
