SKIMMING

GETTING THE GIST
- After reading your text deeply, get the page's essential ideas or "Gist" in your own words. It is like creating a mental chain of ideas based on your material comprehension of the reading.
- Main Benefits: Comprehending and ultimately retaining and recalling information.
- Examples of use: The gist of a poem. Or, we could apply it to a book like Game of Thrones.


PREDICTING
Predicting is a reading strategy that involves what will happen in a text. And that helps readers engage with the text and connect new information to what you already know.
BENEFITS:
ENHANCES COMPREHENSION: predicting actives the brain focus on thinking about the topic .
Improve retention of information: it improves better memory retention by creating anticipated text in the reader's mind.
Improves reading speed: readers make assumptions about what is happen in the text
Examples:
1. Show and look the cover of a book: Before reading the book look at the cover and predict what the story is about.
2. The reader have to do a pause during the story: pause during the story to ask questions to help the readers revise and make their predictions


MEANING FROM CONTEXT
Context Clues are advice that the author gives to help define a unusual word. The clue may appear in the same sentence to which it refers, or it may follow in a preceding sentence.
Benefits:
the reader is faster in reading: because the reader can define unknown words without to stop to look them in a dictionary.
Improve Fluency : To use context clues to facilitate reading comprehension to improve confident readers and fluency.

Examples
1-use synonym to guess unknown word: For example, using the words next to the unknown word can be a clue that a synonym exists.
2- Using Examples in reading: Providing examples of the unknown word can give readers a clue to meaning.
