Traveling is something I enjoy doing. I can go to
places I have never gone before, return to places
I love, explore different areas, or visit family or
friends who live far away. When I was younger I
traveled to many places like Florida, Virginia,
Texas, and Tennessee with my family. I was too
young to travel on my own.

The first time I traveled without my parents
was to a mission trip in South Dakota. My
sister and other adults I knew were there, so I
did not have to worry about my travels.

My first trip all on my
own was to Seattle,
Washington to visit
my sister Abbey and
her husband Kyle. I
was very excited
because I had never
visited Seattle before
and never traveled
farther west than
South Dakota.

The day finally arrived and I was ready to
begin my adventure! My bags were packed
and I had my ticket in hand. I eagerly headed
to the airport with great anticipation for my
journey ahead.

I was so happy and did not think that anything
could go wrong. The first sign of trouble came
with the first flight delay.
"It's okay." I thought. "I still have time to make
my connecting flight in Chicago."
But the flight time kept being pushed back and
the gate kept changing and I started to panic. I
never had to deal with this on my own! I knew
I was not going to make my connecting flight,
so it was time to take action.

I waited in line at the help desk, but there was no
one around to help. Frustrated, I called customer
service to see if they could help me. After fifteen
minutes, someone picked up and I was able to
change my flight. Phew! I could finally relax.
While sitting at the terminal in the Grand Rapids
airport, I began chatting and got to know those
sitting around me. A therapy dog visited us as we
impatiently waited for our flight to depart, giving
us some relief from the stress of the delays.

Sometime later, a voice came over the overhead
speaker announcing that my flight would be
furthered delayed to some mechanical issues
with the plane.
“What the heck!” I exclaimed. At this point, I was
exhausted and feeling helpless. I called my mom
almost in tears, not knowing what to do. She
calmly gave me a few options and reassured me
that I would get to Seattle somehow.

After what seemed like forever, a voice came
over the overhead speaker again, but this time
she told us that we would be boarding our flight!
I gave high fives and celebrated with those I had
been waiting with for five hours.
Our flight landed in Chicago just in the nick of
time. Once I boarded the plane to Seattle, I sat
down and took a huge sigh of relief.

Four hours later I grabbed my bags and waited for
my sister and brother-in-law to pick me up. I
happily and wearily greeted them after a long day
of traveling.
They drove me back to Seattle Pacific University,
where my brother-in-law goes to school.
Even though I was exhausted beyond all measure,
I was ready to begin my adventure in Seattle after
a good night’s sleep. I could not wait to begin
exploring with Abbey and Kyle!

There was lots of exploring to do, so we all excitedly
headed out the next morning. We walked along many
beautiful and hilly streets.

Our first stop was a small, local bakery. It is
one of Abbey and Kyle’s favorite places to go
for breakfast and coffee.
"One latte and pastry for me, please!" I said.
It was delicious!

Our next stop was Kerry Park. This is one of
Seattle's most popular tourist sites. We had a
beautiful view of the Seattle skyline. This was
one of my favorite places in Seattle!

Later, my sister and I toured Seattle on a
vehicle that could travel on land and water! I
liked learning about the city and it was cool to
see all the different houses on the water.
