I never enjoyed moving. It made me feel all tight
inside! Dad got a new job in New Orleans and he
promised this was the last move forever, but this
was the fourth time this year. But my dad did have
a point – something was different here. It was so
peaceful, all the colors, all of the people.
At our new house there was a giant tree in the
back yard as I traced the branches with my feet. It
led to a hedge, but behind the hedge was a whole
city. It was beautiful. All of the purple and red
colors making colors pop out of the dark night sky.

I woke up to a bright sky and the smell of burning
ham -- dad was making his famous eggs and burnt
ham! There was a huge box that was covered with
newspaper. My dad lost his hearing three months
ago and sign language was really tough too.
My dad signaled for me to open the box. As I tore
the thick tufts of newspaper the box began to
rustle. It was a cage. What was I supposed to do
with a cage?
