Cindy Jones and her husband want children desperately. This is the seventh year for their marriage, yet conception has been utterly futile. Blake, Cindy’s husband, is a successful high-powered trial lawyer. Even with all his success as an attorney, his life seems unfulfilled because of his desire for a son. Cindy is a beautiful woman with flaming red hair and a terrific sharp wit.

2
It is 1955 World War II is over, and America is on the mend from the massive cost in human lives and material goods. Blake’s law firm is prospering by leaps and bounds, and he adds two new junior partners to assist in the upturn. Cindy is an interior decorator catering to upscale clients in the Manhattan area.

Cindy arrives at her office early this morning because of a full schedule. She closes the door behind her and places her purse on her desk as a knock on the door startles her. “Come in,” she says. The door opens and a woman in her early twenties enters wearing a tan rain jacket with a hood that shelters her from the morning drizzle. “May I help you?” interjects Cindy quickly.

4
“Yes ma’am, I certainly want your help.” The sound of a baby’s whimper can be heard from under the partially buttoned rain jacket. The woman unbuttons
the jacket revealing a tiny baby cradled to her bosom. The baby is beautiful with wispy red hair and a cute turned-up nose. Cindy places her hand over her mouth and gasps and steps back at the sudden revealing of the baby. “Here, lady, he is yours. I can’t take care of him anymore.” She places the baby in Cindy’s arms. “What on earth do you want? Is this some sick joke?”

5
“It’s no joke, lady. His name is Gabriel after the angel in the Bible. Gabriel deserves better than a heroin junkie for a mother! Please love him and take care of him, lady. I must go.” “Wait!” shouts Cindy as she holds Gabriel to her bosom. “Wait, wait for what, lady? Don’t you get it? I’m a cheap prostitute hooked on dope. I can’t offer Gabriel anything but sorrow and pain.” “Here, let me give you some money for food and shelter,” says Cindy, emptying her purse on the desk. “Keep your money, lady. Gabriel is not for sale! He was a gift to me, and I am giving him to you. Oh, by the way, here’s his bottle and diaper bag. Gabriel will be hungry in a few minutes.”

6
The woman opens the door and looks back with one last glance at her son as a tear trickles down her cheek. Cindy is now sitting behind her desk in her plush leather chair looking down on Gabriel, and her heart becomes smitten with the most intense love she has ever known. Gabriel stretches and opens his sparkling blue eyes and looks at Cindy and coos and smiles with an angelic sweet expression. Cindy gets his bottle and pulls her chair over to her window, and bonding takes place and fills a void so desperately empty for so many years. Tears of joy well up in Cindy’s eyes because her prayer for a son becomes a reality. The phone rings startling Cindy back to reality.

7
“Hello, Cindy, is everything all right?”
“Yes Blake, but you need to get over here right now!” Blake knows his wife and senses the urgency in Cindy’s voice and hurries to her office. Arriving at Cindy’s office, Blake looks amazed to see his wife sitting and holding a beautiful baby. “Who does he belong to?” asks Blake as he strokes Gabriel’s thick hair. “He is ours,” Cindy says proudly. “What?”

8
“I said Gabriel is our son. Here, Blake, hold him and see. He is a living angel.” She places him in her husband’s arms. Blake also is entirely captivated and falls head-over-heels in love with Gabriel with his first encounter. “We can’t do this, Cindy! It’s against the law!” Blake insists. “Blake, we must. He is a gift from God.” Soon the two agree to hatch a plan to call Gabriel’s appearance an adoption. They succeed in their scheming and deception and raise Gabriel as their own legally adopted son. Gabriel enjoys all the advantages of a privileged life and studies to be a doctor.
