"It's snowing, it's snowing!"
Kennedy (known as Doodle to Gram) rolled over, opened one eye and, seeing it was still dark outside, went back to sleep.
"It's snowing, it's snowing!"
Now both eyes opened. Kennedy thought for a moment. "Am I dreaming? Am I dreaming about snow?"

"It's snooooowing!"
Ok, not dreaming, wide awake, Kennedy jumped out of bed and grabbed her slippers. Out in the hallway, she could see a tiny figure coming up the stairs.
"Dempsey, is that you shouting? What in the world???"
"It's snowing, Kennedy!"
He again repeated.

"Dempsey, you're dreaming about snow, which is funny because you've never even seen snow. Now go back to sleep before Mommy and Daddy wake up."
Quickly he grabbed her hand and before Kennedy knew what was happening, he had dragged her down the stairs and into his bedroom.
"Look!" Dempsey commanded.

With a big yawn and a very tired sigh, she looked out the window. And then she rubbed her eyes and looked again. And then she blinked several times and looked again.
"It's snowing!"
gasped Kennedy.
"That's what I've been telling you."

Kennedy began to think out loud, "This is not possible. We live in Florida. It never snows here." She peeked out again and there, illuminated in the street light, sure enough, it was snowing.
She turned toward Dempsey. "Well, little man. I think it's time to wake up the others. But let's let Mommy and Daddy sleep for a while longer. It'll be our big surprise for them. You get Cash and I'll get Shiloh and we'll meet back here."

They both took off, Dempsey across the hall to Cash's room and Kennedy up the stairs to Shiloh's room.
Dempsey opened Cash's door as quietly as he could so as not to wake Mommy and Daddy. He began to tiptoe across the room, but suddenly,
"OUCH, OW, OH!"

Cash had left his Legos and other toys scattered on the floor and Dempsey was pretty sure he had stepped on each one. As he limped toward Cash, he saw Cash sitting straight up in bed.
"Dempsey, what are you doing in my room?" he growled. "You woke me up and you're not supposed to be playing with my things!" "No, no, no, Cash." Dempsey tried to explain as he rubbed his sore feet.
"It's snowing, it's snowing outside. Come see!"
Cash (known to Gram as Blue) groaned
and fell back onto his pillow.

Meanwhile, Kennedy had run up the stairs as fast and as quietly as possible. As she stepped into Shiloh's room, she fell over Barbie dolls, a mountain of Barbie dolls.
CRASH, BOOM, BANG.
Barbie dolls went flying in all
directions as Shiloh jumped
out of bed and almost landed
on Kennedy, who was sprawled
on the floor.

"What are you doing, Kennedy?" Shiloh began to scream. But Kennedy scrambled to get back on her feet and shush Shiloh.
"Shhh, don't wake Mommy and Daddy. I have a surprise to show you. Come on."
Shiloh had no choice but to follow Kennedy. She couldn't imagine what surprise Kennedy wanted to
show her in the middle of the night.
As they went towards Dempsey's
room, he was in the hall waiting for them.

"Cash won't believe me. He won't get out of bed." Dempsey complained.
"Ok, you two stay here in the hall and I'll get Cash."
"Wait, Kennedy, wait! Watch out for . . ."
"OUCH, OW, OH."

Kennedy had found the Legos. Cash was wide awake and out of bed by this time.
"What are you guys up to?" he wanted to know.
"Come see."
All four crept into Dempsey's
room and Kennedy pulled up
the blinds. They all stood in
amazement as they watched
the snow gently falling.

"I don't understand," began Cash.
"Me either but isn't it beautiful? And the funny thing is that Dempsey saw it first and knew what it was. He's the only one who has never even seen snow. Dempsey, how did you know?
"I don't know. I just did." He responded.
"Well I guess I have seen snow but I don't remember it. It looks so pretty and yummy." Shiloh at last spoke up.
Kennedy laughed. "It's not yummy! You don't eat it. You play in it!"
"Really, Kennedy?" the other three all asked at once. "Can we go play in it?"
"I don't know. What do you think, Cash?"
"I don't think Mommy and Daddy would mind if we stay in the front yard under the street light." he responded.
