There was once a little girl who loved school more than anything. Her name was Lilly and all Lilly wanted to do was to learn how to become a teacher. All her life her teachers told her, “When you get older, you will learn how to teach.” That all changed when she met Mrs. Sanders.
Mrs. Sanders could see the desire in Lilly's eyes. So when Lilly asked her to help her learn how to be a teacher, Mrs. Sanders responded, " I will point you in the right direction and I will help you find the answers that you already have."
Lilly was a little confused but she didn't care because someone was finally going to help her!

That same day after school, Lilly and Mrs. Sanders began their journey of learning together. Mrs. Sanders told Lilly, "I am going to show you what meaningful learning looks like by helping you remember times you have experienced it yourself. Then you can take your own experiences to help you become a great teacher someday!"
Lilly could hardly contain her excitement.

Mrs. Sanders continued, "We will start with active learning. This is when we learn by interacting, observing and experimenting with our environment. Do you remember the time that you and your friends were building a snowman at recess and couldn't reach the top to put the head on? After trying a few different ideas that didn't work you and your friends finally decided to make another large snowball to stand on to use like a ladder. That idea was the one that worked! That was active learning."

"I remember that!" said Lilly.
"Great, now lets think about another type of learning, Lilly. This type is constructive learning. This is when you are confused or puzzled about what you see and you need to come up with an explanation of what you see. An example of this is when we were were learning about inertia. Everyone was confused why the toy would fly off the end of the scooter when the scooter was stopped. So we investigated further and did more research to answer everyone's questions. We even learned about seat belts and why they are necessary!"
