For Dr. Julia Plummer and Dr. Chris Palma

"Good morning class. Today we are going to read a book about space," said Mrs. Smith. "Can anyone tell me what things you might see in space?"
Drew yelled out, "Stars!"
Sammy said, "The Sun"
Daniel answered, "Planets!"
Alex screamed, "The Moon!"
"You are all right, good job guys!" She responded.
Mrs. Smith turned to the page with the phases of the moon and looked at her class and asked, "Does anyone know why the moon looks different in this picture?" The class was silent, no one knew why the Moon looked different.
That sparked an idea for Mrs. Smith. She told them to all line up at the door because she had somewhere to bring them.

Mrs. Smith had a very special surprise waiting for them outside the school.
All the students were so excited and began piling into the spaceship.
"I am going to bring you guys into space and show you why the Moon looks different in that picture we found in the book," Mrs. Smith says over the microphone in the spaceship. "Does anyone know what its called when the moon looks different?"
Sarah raised her hand. "Yes, Sarah, do you know what its called?"
"Are they called phases?" Sarah asked.
"Yes they are called phases, good job Sarah!" Mrs. Smith answered.
