                      Facts About Earthquakes 

*Hot liquids turn into rock. The rock turn into plates.

*The earths plates constantly move, grind, and crunch 

together.

*They put extreme force on the plates. 

*This causes huge rocks in the crust to break creating 

cracks known as faults. 

*An earthquake can travel up to 375,000 miles away.

*Earthquakes   cause enormous destruction and can kill 

a lot of people.

*Earthquakes mostly occur in earthquakes zones.

*One day in China an earthquake turned into a tsunami 

and tore China up.

Earthquake Experiment

This experiment helped us to understand how earthquakes occur. 

Coin Drop Earthquake

*First cut a two inch circle in a paper.

*Next draw a line in the circle.    

*Then draw a 1/2 inch intervals in the line. 

*Draw concentric circles in the 1/2 inch intervals.

*cover the sides with clear packing tape.

*place it at the bottom of a pot.

*Fill the pot with two inches of corn syrup and two inches of water.

*Last grab some coins and put a coin at the edge of a pot. Put 

 two fingers on the coin and drop it. See what happens.

A Volcano 

*Is an opening of the Earth's crust that releases gasses 

and hot lava. 

*A volcano can be made by an Earthquake.

*A Volcano causes changes to the Earth. 

Earthquakes can cause mountains to form up in the 

Earth's crust. The mountains bend, fold, and are pushed 

up.
