Once Upon a Time there was a handsome young boy who lived in the city of York, in England. His name was Robinson Crusoe and he loved to sail and explore.
One day despite being told by his Mother and Father not to sail on his own, he left home for sea all by himself. This is his tale.

One dark and gloomy night, Robinson packed up a few of his special things, left his cosy home and parents and headed towards the shore. He boarded a ship set for sale to Africa. It wasn't too long before Robinson realised that sailing wasn’t as easy as he had thought. The waves were so big that they made Robinson shake at the knees and quiver in his tummy. Robinson wanted to return home but he felt so bad about disobeying his parents that he decided to stay.

The big waves and swaying of the ship were only the start of Robinson's troubles.
On his way to Africa the ship was invaded by pirates and Robinson was captured and taken as a slave.
Robinson saw an opportunity to escape from his captors and he took it.
He was rescued by another ship headed for Spain. One night, Robinson experienced a violent storm, that shook and wrecked the ship.
He was thrown into the sea and washed up onto the shore of a nearby island.

Robinson soon found out he was all alone.

To survive on the island, Robinson made a warm and cosy shelter and gathered some wood to make a fire. He salvaged as much food as he could find from the shipwreck.
Robinson became very good at making tools and other things for his own pleasure.

Eventually Robinson built himself a lovely house. He also had a boat that he used to sail on around the island. Robinson planted seeds that he had kept from the ship, and grew some food.
Crusoe often thought of his family back home in England and wondered about disobeying his parents.
Would things would have been different if he had stayed at home?

Crusoe was lonely and sad most days although having set himself up quite well on the island. He built himself a summer home on the other side of the island and spent his days sailing on his boat.
To keep himself from getting too sad he talked to God. He also kept a diary and wrote down things that he did and how he was feeling.
