This book is dedicated to the girls who are the heroes of their own stories.

Once upon a time, in a land of glimmering lakes and tall mountain peaks, stood a bleak castle, shrouded in an air of mystery.

The townspeople often mused as to what happened within the castle's walls. There were talks of dragons, witches, and wizards. Despite the chatter, no-one dared make the journey, for fear of not returning.

In actuality, there were no goblins or guels, but instead a girl named Rapunzel, locked away for years in a room high, high up.

She passed the time thinking of ways to escape. Her small room was littered with the crumpled up remnants of past plans. Every day without fail, Rapunzel scribbled furiously in her notebook, thinking up this and that.

One day, she was struck with a brilliant idea, finding an answer in something she had never before thought to consider: her hair. Rapunzel had not cut her hair in years, resulting in a long chesnut mane that reached past her ankles and spiraled across the floor.

This, she thought, will make an excellent rope. Rapunzel's hair was almost just long enough to reach down the side of the castle to the earth underneath.
Rapunzel was deep in thought when suddenly, she heard a faint shout from below.

Intrigued, she pulled open her small window, calling out, "Hello?"
She was greeted by only the sound of the wind in the trees.
Just as she was about to close her window in defeat, a girl with wildly curly hair and fierce green eyes waved to her.

"I was walking along and decided to come here to see if the myths were true", she shouted.
"Well", Rapunzel replied, "I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I am the only living creature here." Although dragons and goblins would make this place a little more exciting, Rapunzel thought to herself.

"Oh", uttereted the girl, visibly surprised. "Well my name is Lucy and I can try to help you get down if you would like."
"I have a plan", Rapunzel replied as she gestured to her flowing hair."I should be down in a week or so. It is almost just long enough to climb."
