Addie lays in bed as her son, Cash builds her Coffin for her.

After Cash finishes the coffin, they hold a funeral service for his mother.

After the death of Addie, her family sets out on a journey to Jefferson.

Their first stop was at the Samson Farm to stay overnight. Rachel wanted them to stay but she was having trouble with the awful smell coming from Addie's coffin. Due to severe flooding, the main bridges leading over the local river have been flooded or washed away, and the Bundrens are forced to turn around and attempt a river-crossing over a makeshift ford. When a stray log upsets the wagon, the coffin is knocked out, Cash’s broken leg is reinjured, and the team of mules drowned.

The family makes their second stop at the second farm.  Cashes foot is starting to turn black and Jewell trades his horse for a new team of mules.

The Bundren family finally reaches the town of New Hope. Not long after they arrived, the marshal of the town asks them to leave due to the smell of Addie's rotting corpse.

After that, the family reaches Gillespie's farm and they spend the night. Darl burns down the barn that they are storing the coffin in but the family manages to save the coffin and continue on with their journey.

After much traveling, the family finally reaches Jefferson where they had planned to bury Addie and finally lay her to rest.
