How It All Started

It all started in Great Britain when someone made a machine that could quickly and easily separates cotton fibers from their seeds, which made it more easier and less people to pay for doing that job. That was when product factories came to life and many But of course that was not good for everyone.

How did it spread
It first spread to the United States, because of good power sources like coal water and iron, and also the immigrants that came to the U.S. provided lots of workers.
New Inventions
A new invention was the cotton gin. A machine that quickly and easily separates cotton fibers from their seeds. Then fibers are processed into various cotton goods such as linens, while any undamaged cotton is used largely for textiles like clothing.

The first steam engine was created by James Watt. It helped make energy for the factories, so they didn't have to be made by the water. The only thing was it needed coal and it was made by iron. It also lead to the creation of the steam boat and the locomotive.

Interchangeable parts are identical parts manufactured by machines. This lead to mass productions of many goods and that led to more accessible goods for people because of cheap prices.

Working Conditions weren't the best.
*14 hour days/6 days a week
*Fatigue and unsafe working conditions= accidents= numerous injuries and death.
The reason they stayed working in a factory was because they earned more money working there.

City Living
When factory job opportunities increased populations in cities doubled during this time. cities were overcrowded and was unsanitary. There was also no running water, pollution from factories. High poverty rates lead to increases in crime and there was not enough police to protect people. The middle and upper classes lived in nicer homes in suburbs.

There was a huge division between the rich and the poor. The rich were in favor of laissez-faire capitalism (this means that the economy should be run without government interference). This lead to a rise in monopolies. The lower was in favor of socialism. (the idea that the government should control means of production and redistribute the wealth where people need it.) socialism lead to the rise of communism. Communism was the idea that the lower class should overthrow the upper class. So it was a little crazy.
