To Mr. Breadstick, for making us do a project!

There once was a dog named Bob. He was very smart but he wanted to be able to calculate how many toys he will have in many weeks. His Friend Amanda said she could help.

Woof!
Let's see what we're working with Bob! Show me what I need to help you with!
Bob showed Amanda his toys. He has 14 toys today. He says that everyday he gets 2 more toys. Amanda knows just what to do with this!

Bob! I know who we can go to for help!
Woof!
Amanda took Bob to go see her math teacher Ms.Smith. She explained that Bob needed a way to calculate how many toys he'd have. Ms. Smith drew a graph on a big piece of paper and put it on the board. "This is a linear graph, of your toys Bob!" Ms.Smith said.
Let's get a closer look at that graph!

There are 4 things to note about this graph!
1) Every day the graph goes up by 2.
2) The line starts at 14.
3)There is only one thing being measured, toys.
4) The line NEVER goes over itself.

A linear function is a function with a constant rate of change. Everyday Bob gets exactly 2 toys, that is constant!
Woof!

A linear function has an equation too! Let me show it to you!
y=mx+b
But why are there letters in a math equation? What do they mean?
