This book is dedicated to my daughter Lydia and all my students. I hope you all know how to get rid of those pesky germ monsters!

Happy Monday Mrs. Barhorst's
Kinder Kids :)
It was a chilly and rainy Monday morning morning when little Lydia entered the classroom not looking right. She came to school with a runny nose, a horrible cough, tired eyes, and dressed in her pajamas. When Mrs. Barhorst asked her if she was alright, her voice was broken and in a whispered tone. Mrs. Barhorst said to check-in and join her down on the carpet.
Poor little Lydia struggled to even get to the carpet. Instead of sitting down on her square, she curled into a little ball and closed her eyes. Halfway through reciting the alphabet Lydia let out a giant "achooooo" and sneezed all over her classmate Mason. Mrs. Barhorst knew she must change her lesson plans from prince's and princess's to prevention of illnesses.

Mrs. Barhorst looked at the students and asked if they knew what an illness was. Lydia woke up and raised her hand. When Mrs. Barhorst called on her, she loudly said "illness is when your body is covered in germ monsters!"
Mrs. Barhorst explained that illness is caused by germs that are spread. Illness is another way of saying your sick or you don't feel good. She said how they can be spread by airborne, direct contact, fecal-oral, and bloodborne.

Mrs. Barhorst then asked the class if they knew how those germ monsters were spread. She said they can be spread by playing with toys, hugging, laughing, crying, going potty, eating, and even breathing. Usually "sharing is caring" but not when it comes to germ monsters.

She asked the class if they knew what they could do while at school to prevent the spread of germ monsters. She compiled all the suggestions and made a list to be displayed in the classroom.
