My story begins in Germany,
where I lived many years with my family.
We had a small farm and things were good,
but we knew we could enhance our livelihood. 1

So we left our home in search of another place,
America, we thought would have much more space!

Things in America are very different,
here's what my life is like as an immigrant.
We speak english now and changed how we ate,
more dairy, meat, and fruits, it's great!1

There are also foods from our old home
that are popular here too, as I was shown.
Sauerkraut, pretzels, pickles, and more
even share the same names as before!1

Momma says the key to good health,
is low stress, good food, and a clean self.
We don't really go to the doctor,
instead we use botanical home remedies to help us feel better.
Obesity is a worry both back home and here,
but with exercise and eating right there is no need to fear.1

My church is also a connection to my culture.
There I don't feel like just an outsider.
I have met people there from Germany
that can relate to my journey.
We share the Lutheran faith, stories, and song,
There, I feel like I belong. 1

As my story comes to an end,
there is a message I would like to extend.
Though Germany will always have a place in my heart,
and with my culture I will never part,
America is now also a part of me.
Changed, I will forever be.
