Tall Tales
By Skyler Weatherbee
This year we read tall tales. Tall tales are folktales. Folktales were first told orally, many many years ago. These folktales were from the frontier. Frontier is an unexplored area. Tall Tales were about men and women who moved from the East coast to the American West. Some of the tall tales we read were John Henry, Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, and Casey Jones.
We learned how to write a Tall Tale. First, Tall tales have exaggerations. Exaggerations are when you stretch the truth. John Henry couldn't really hold a ten pound hammer when he was a baby. That is an exaggeration. Next, tall tales have humor. Pecos bill was naked because he thought he was raised by coyotes and that is really funny. Then, Tall tales also has an amazing childhood. Paul Bunyan was sleeping in a big covered wagon when he was a baby because he was so big. Last, Tall tales have an amazing adventure. Casey Jones saved everyone on a train.
We wrote tall tales about ourselves. We hope you like them.
