Earth and space.
The student knows that the natural world includes the air around us and objects in the sky.
The student is expected to; identify characteristics of the seasons of the year and day and night;

We all live on Earth. Earth is a round planet in space that rotates or spins. It also travels around a big bright star called the Sun.
The Earth has four seasons.
Seasons change as the Earth rotates around the Sun.
In winter the Earth tilts away from the Sun.
The weather feels cold. Look snow!
In Spring the weather changes.
It gets warmer.
We can see flowers bloom.
In Summer the Earth tilts toward the Sun.
The weather is hot.
In Fall the weather changes again.
It feels cooler.
The leaves start to change colors.
You can't feel it, but Earth is always moving. It takes 24 hours to make one full turn.
As it rotates, the part of the Earth that faces the sun gets light and warmth. On that part of Earth it is daytime.
At the same time, the other part of Earth faces away from the Sun. On that part of Earth it is night time.
As the Earth rotates, night turns into day and day turns into night.
