GUIDELINES FOR IPAD USAGE
Students at Wilmington Friends School will have many opportunities to use their school-issued iPads as part of their learning in the classroom and at home. iPads are also used as one way for students to share ideas and information with other classes or with each other. Our goal is to help students be respectful of the iPads. An intentional part of the curriculum is teaching good digital citizenship at each grade level.
All parents of students in kindergarten through third grade are asked to take time with their children to read, and understand the following rules.
Using the iPad responsibly is very important. I will take care of the iPad by:
Keeping it in the protective case
Using on flat, stable surfaces only
Not lending it to anyone including friends and/or siblings
Keeping food and drink away from the iPad
Only using the camera and microphone on the iPad for school work
Following the school guidelines to clean the device.
Acceptable uses of the iPad is devoted to activities that support teaching and learning.
I will not make any changes to the iPad by changing the screensaver.
I will not download any games, movies, music, or apps to the iPad.
I will not share my passwords, except with my parents, or attempt to access anyone’s work but my own.
I will tell an adult/teacher if I read or see something on the device that is inappropriate.
I agree not to go to any websites or apps other than the ones my teacher has allowed me to go to.
I will ask for help if I don’t know what to do.
I will never give out personal information about myself (full name, address, phone number, photo) over the Internet.
I will be school appropriate and use kind words.
I will let my teacher know if I drop the iPad or crack the screen.
I understand that if I break any of these rules, I might not be able to use the iPad.
The use of the school provided iPad is a privilege that comes with special responsibilities. If a student does not follow the above rules, there will be consequences that may restrict that student’s use of devices at school.
TAKING CARE OF YOUR IPAD
Transport:
Never expose an iPad to long-term temperature extremes or direct sunlight. For example, an automobile is not a good place to store an iPad.
Food and liquids can damage your iPad. Please do not eat or drink while using your iPad.
Keep your water bottle outside your
backpack to prevent spills.

Case
Your iPad comes with a school-issued case. The purpose of the case is to protect the iPad, especially while the iPad is being transported.
The iPad must remain in the school issued protective case at all times.

Cleaning
iPads are damaged by liquids. The iPad can be cleaned with a soft lint-free cloth. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean the iPad.
How can I sanitize my Ipad?
Using a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, you may gently wipe the hard, nonporous surfaces of your Ipad, such as the display, keyboard, or other exterior surfaces. Don't use bleach. Avoid getting moisture in any opening, and don't submerge your Apple product in any cleaning agents.
IPAD CONTENT: DOWNLOADS
Students will not be allowed to download apps from the App store. (Our school’s AppleID is “hard coded” in to the iPads so students/parents won’t be able to install their own software.) Although these iPads are the students to use both at home and school, they are instructional devices and therefore will contain content approved and/or purchased by the school.
The screensaver and settings should not be changed.
