This book is about a little girl whose house burns down, and her parents build a new home out in the country. These recent changes are frightening, and she has trouble making friends. Then, the little girl finds a tree near their backyard that reminds her of a dinosaur. She spends a lot of time with her dinosaur tree reading and having picnics. The dinosaur tree is her friend. Later, when her parents invite neighbors over, she brings some kids from school out to see her dinosaur tree, and she finally makes friends. All because of the dinosaur tree.

Esmeralda is a busy three-month-old. She reflects upon her short time on earth and all the things she is learning and will learn in the near future.
