What is life without a little risk?-

Miss Pat sat on her rocking chair on her front door as usual. The twins were deep in conversation with each other. All was normal. Nothing could have been better. I watched as Miss Pat rocked back and forth over and over again. I watched as the twins smiled at each other, coming to an agreement. What was their argument about was not the slightest different. Both wanted to wear their new dresses. I could not have been happier. Things were the same, all day, all night. Because of one tiny reason.

This small reason was nothing had ever changed. We loved everything that never changed.
"Hello darling!" Miss Pat called.
As usual I called back, "Hello Miss Pat! How do you do?"
"I am fine, thanks." Miss Pat smiled the same smile. And then asked the question.
"How are you?"
I was about to reply with a 'Good, thanks.' when someone shook me.

The hands that shook me were almost airy, like being in a wind storm.
"Good thanks." I replied hastily.
"Glad to hear it." Miss Pat said.
The touch of the hands were gone. It had startled me, that change. I still went about my way, though.
"I should get going." Miss Pat walked away as always.
Then the twins came over. They were still dressed in their old dresses because they never changed either.
I smiled at them. The same, the same, the same. Nothing could change right?
Right?!

The twins both smiled coyly and pulled out a spider. It was rubber, like normal.
"Aah!" I screamed falsely.
The twins both cocked their heads.
"What's wrong?" Carrie, a twin in a purple dress asked.
"Yeah, what's wrong?" Mary, a twin in a pink dress echoed.
"Spider." I said flatly.
The twins both laughed evilly. Mary held out her hand and Carrie slapped it.
"We did that!" They shouted in unison.
"I know." I murmured under my breath. I went inside.

As I went inside, I felt the hands. But then I felt something different. A tap. On the shoulder. I turned around and saw a woman. She had skin with a green tinge, as though she was ill. Her teeth were yellow and brown. There were bags under her eyes, as if she had been up all night. She looked not like a woman, but like puke with eyes and a mouth.
"Aah!" I jumped back.
"Relax." Her voice was scratchy and grating.
"It's just me. Like, your handy goddess."
I blinked. "You're a goddess? Not to be rude, but have you looked in the mirror once in a while?"
She sighed. "I'll tell you the story."

"It happened when I was young. I wanted attention."
"Well, duh. Get to the point, so called goddess."
She frowned. "Okay, okay. I wanted attention. Really bad. I did stunts and tricks. I bragged about my skills. When the other goddesses tried to show off, I would humiliate them. They got mad. They cursed me and sent me to earth till I learned my lesson. That's it."
"Wow." I said. "Talk about drama!"
She looked at me. "I want to help you and your town. It's in danger and it needs you. Now."

She vanished. I was left to thinking. I rushed outside. It was already morning.
"Hello darling!" Miss Pat called.
Forgetting my routine, I said, "Hi."
Miss Pat looked shocked.
"I am fine, thanks?" She peeped.
"I didn't ask." I looked her in the eye.
"I should get going." She ran back to her poach. The twins came over.
"Hey, what's up?" I asked.
The twin's jaw's dropped. They ran away. I grinned. This was fun!

I went over to Miss Pat.
"Hi."
Then, something wonderful happened. Miss Pat open her mouth, and wait for it, closed it. That's not what I expected.
"Hello?" I waved a hand in front of her face.
"Hi." Miss Pat said.
I jumped up and down.
"YOU SAID HI!!"
"Yeah. I did. I can speak, you know."
"Huh? You're not being the same! Yay!"
"I know, I know, you got visited by that weird goddess lady and now you want to save town."

"You know about that?"
She laughed. "Do I! Me and her have been friends forever!"
"You mean since she got sent to Earth." I correct.
"No. You see, I am not human. I am a goddess, myself. Named Patina."
I gasp. "What?"
"I came down to Earth to live with her when she was cursed. She is not only my friend, but my sister."
She snaps her fingers and transforms into the most beautiful lady I've ever seen.

"Wow." I breath.
"I disguised myself." She said. "And I need to save my sister. Only one thing can break the curse."
"What?" I say.
"The change of heart. By helping your town, she will be a respected goddess again."
I nod. I want to change this dreary little town into a big, happy, city.
"Let's go." I say.

Patina takes my hand and pulls me into a shed.
"Yikes." I cringe. "What are we doing here, of all places?"
Patina sighs and points to the corner. The goddess is hiding in the corner.
"Myrtle, she's helping." Patina looks her in the eye.
"So that's your name." I smirk. "Myrtle."
Myrtle groans and walks over to me.
"Come on. To the twins house."
Away we go!
