My twin sister and I twirled in front of our full-
length mirror admiring our matching,
shimmery purple gowns.
A loud knock startled us. Mother
marched into our bedroom. “Andra! Adelphia!
Time for your party!”
We waltzed downstairs to our tenth
birthday party.

We enjoyed a wonderful evening filled with
food, friends, and fun. As the party came to a
close, mother laid our birthday cake before us.
Everyone sang, “Happy Birthday”.
We were about to blow out the candles and
make a wish when the dining room’s double
doors blew open. A whirlwind of sparkly
snowflakes filled the room.

A beautiful witch with wild, red dreadlocks zoomed into
the dining room on a fancy pink motorcycle. The witch
pulled up next to me, smiled deviously and yanked me
onto the seat in front of her. My shimmery purple gown
instantly faded into black rags.
“Gnarly Mane, No!” Mother cried and fainted.
“Let her go this instant, Gnarly Mane!” Papa reached
for me but the witch flew just above his grasp.
“Get out of my way, I’m taking your girl!” the witch
snarled.
Grandma Hildy stepped out of the crowd. “Wanna
make a bet?” She aimed her magic wand at the witch.

“Your old fashioned spells are no match for my
magic!” Gnarly Mane threw back her head and
laughed so hard she almost flipped off her
motorcycle.
Grandma chanted loudly:
Uppety-Buckety-Zippety-Zoo
Come-to-Grandma
She Loves You!
