Big Rock Elementary School, and has 24 classmates. Today was just
like any other Monday in her 1st grade classroom.

First, the class says the Pledge of Allegiance. Next, they finish their
bell work and turn it into the bin.
Finally, class starts with writing workshop. During writing workshop
in Ms. Birch's class, the first graders have the options to draw
pictures, write stories and poems, or even write a letter to a friend or
family member.

the time she went to the Grand Canyon with her
Grandma. Other kids wrote stories about their first
times learning to swim, or even their favorite types of ice cream.
Her classmate Jack, however, decided to write a letter to a classmate for
his writing workshop. Jack worked long and hard on this letter, and
Natasha could see him coloring beautiful pictures of him and friends
playing on the playground. Natasha wondered who Jack was writing
this amazing card for.

When Jack was all done, he delivered his letter. To
Natasha’s surprise, he gave his letter to their other
classmate Kyle. Natasha was confused, why would Jack
want to give such a pretty letter to Kyle? Why had he not
given it to her, or Samantha, or even her friend Gina?

Natasha had to get to the bottom of this.
She marched right up to Mrs.Birch’s desk and told her what had
happened,
“Jack wrote a letter to Kyle” she explained to Mrs.Birch.
Mrs.Birch looked puzzled, “Well,” she said to Natasha, “we must fix
this at once”.
Natasha and Mrs.Birch went to Jack’s desk to ask what he had
done.

“Jack, Natasha tells me you chose to write a letter to Kyle today”.
Jack looked confused.
“Yeah Mrs.Birch, you told us we could write to anyone we wanted.
Kyle is so funny and kind, so I wrote him a letter”.
“Jack,” said Mrs.Birch, “I think it would be better choice if you wrote
this kind of letter to your mom, or dad, or another girl in the class.
Maybe Kyle, another boy, wasn't the best choice for your writing
time today”.

Jack dropped his head, he was so sad. Jack thought that he was just
writing a letter to a friend who he admired, but Mrs.Birch and Natasha
didn't seem to approve of this.
From then on,
Jack did not write letters to his classmates at all.
