Once upon a time, there was a great king who 

lived in a castle.   One day he went on vacation, 

so he left his queen in charge.   He told her to 

watch over his precious crown that he cared 

about most.   He always kept it on the top of a 

candlestick.   But the queen failed.   When she 

woke up in the morning, the crown was gone! 

"Guards! Guards! The king's crown has been 

stolen!"

As soon as her guards heard the queen, they 

charged through the door.   "Someone stole the 

king's crown!" she cried.   "Now when he gets 

back, he'll be furious!   I want you to find that 

crown, and throw the theif into my dungeon!"

"Yes, Yo ur Majesty," said the guards.   Then 

the guards took off on their horses to search 

for the theif.

The guards looked everywhere for the thief.  

They searched the mountains, the forests, and 

the whole kingdom.   Then they came back to 

the queen.   "We have looked everywhere, Your 

Majesty.   But we can't find the thief." The 

queen sighed.   "We are never going to catch 

the thief!" she thought.

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.   One of the 

guards answered it.   An old woman was at the door.  

"Who are you?" asked the queen.   "I heard about 

the stolen crown, and would like to know if you 

wanted me to help you catch the thief," said the 

woman.

"Who are you?" repeated the queen. "And how do 

you know?"

"I am a detective and I just know," answered the 

woman.  

"Okay. Go with my guards. But find the thief!"
