It was Saturday and school and chores were finished. It was time to go outside to play. All the children in the neighbourhood gathered to play cricket and then we played with skipping ropes and then we played with a ball. We all then sat on the grass to take a rest. We lay on our backs and looked at the sky. We imagined that the clouds were animals. We laughed as we pointed to clouds and thought they looked like rabbits. The clouds turned dark and the wind started to blow. We all sat up and looked at the sky.

It looked like it was going to rain but it did not. Out of nowhere a piece of paper flew down from the sky. It was like the sky was giving us a magical gift. A small group of us jumped up to try to reach the paper before it fell into the river. We managed to catch it and looked at it as so though it was the best thing ever. We all sat in a circle and decided we needed to think carefully what we would do with the paper.

Our first thought was to draw a picture. Verity had some coloured pencils and ran home to get them. Once she returned we all looked at the paper again. What should we draw? We all had a discussion. We decided that we would draw a picture of us all with the piece of paper. This seemed the fairest idea, and it included everyone. So, we all helped to draw the picture. Once the picture was finished, we stood back and looked at it with pride.

We then decided to turn the piece of paper over to play dot to dot and dots and boxes and other word games. We managed to fill the whole paper with pencil games. When we looked at the paper, it looked terribly busy. We thought we had used the paper wisely. We all sat in a circle and wondered if we could do something else with the piece of paper.

It was suggested that we make a paper plane. Olly knew how to do this. We all sat and watched as the paper was folded. Once it was finished, we all sat back and admired the paper plane. We could see parts of our drawing and parts of our pencil games. It added to the design of the plane. We then decided to see if the plane would fly. It did. We took turns flying the plane and catching the plane. It gave us lots of laughs especially when we could not catch it.

We sat down again. Tally decided to take the paper plane and flattened the paper out. He rolled the paper into a tube and said they had made a telescope. Tally held it to his eyes and looked through the tube. The tube was passed from one person to another. We all thought the tube was a bit boring and we needed to think of something else to make. Tally made a ball from the paper and we kicked it around. We decided that was not a clever idea and that we needed to be more creative and respectful when dealing with the piece of paper. After all we only had one piece of paper.

Imi suggested origami. The paper became a hat and then it became a crane and then it became a flower. By this time, the paper was becoming crinkled. Neve suggested we needed a rolling pin to flatten out the paper. She went home and returned with a rolling pin. Everyone found a flat area of ground to place the paper, and Neve carefully rolled the rolling pin over the paper. At one point there was a pebble on the ground and under the paper and the rolling pin went over it. We saw that there was a slight hole. We all looked sad and wondered if we could still use the paper. Tally suggested we get sap from a tree to seal the hole. We could let the sun dry the sap on the paper and the hole woulddisappear. So, we did this. We all went to have lunch and left the paper in the sun so the sun could seal the hole with the sap.
After lunch, we all had a renewed energy. We folded the paper to make a fan. Everyone passed the fan around and used it to cool their face. Some held the fan with the picture side to their face, whilst others held the pencil game side to their face. We tried to guess which side people wanted to look at before they fanned their face. We clapped when we got the answer right. We did a thumbs down when we got the answer wrong.

Imi suggested we create an envelope. We could all put something in the envelope and that way we would keep our treasure and the paper forever. The paper was folded into an envelope and lay on the ground whilst we all looked for our treasure item. Some found different shaped leaves, there was a feather, an interesting pebble, and a strange, shaped twig. Someone found an odd wrapper that they thought if someone found the envelope in years to come, they would see the wrapper and date and know the envelope was made at that time. We thought that was an innovative idea. It was like the envelope would be a time capsule. We sat back and looked at the envelope and sighed!
