Spell: Lumos, Nox

Purpose: To put a light on the end of your wand, put out the light on the end of your wand.

This is the first spell Harry learns.

Spell: Accio

Purpose: To summon the object you are pointing at or say. e.c.t "Accio quill!".

Harry uses this to summon his Firebolt in the First Task.

Spell: Minuetto

Purpose: Makes something small.

Harry teaches this to the DA. It is only in the movie.

Spell: Protego

Purpose: Shield you from simple spells such as Stupfy.

Harry use's this spell in the Department Of Mysteries trying to escape Voldemort's Death Eaters.

Spell: Impedimenta

Purpose: To slow down what you aim your wand at.

Harry uses this spell in the battle of The Department Of Mysteries.

Spell: Alohomora

Purpose: To unlock doors.

Hermione uses this spell a lot (I think it's her favorite spell).

Spell: Petrificus Totalus

Purpose: To tie up your opponent with invisible ropes.

Harry also uses this spell in the battle of The Department Of Mysteries. Hermione uses this spell on Neville to stop him from snitching.

Spell: Tarantallegra

Purpose: Your opponent's legs start doing a kind of tap dance they can't control.

A Death Eater named Dolohov casts this spell on Neville in the battle of The Department Of Mysteries.

Spell: Colloportus

Purpose: Seal a door shut.

Some of the DA use this to seal some doors in the Department Of Mysteries.

Spell: Asendio

Purpose: Lifts the caster high into the air.

Harry uses this spell to lift himself out of the water in the Second Task.

Spell: Duro

Purpose: Turns the target to stone.

Hermione uses this on a tapestry in the Deathly Hallows.

Spell: Incendio

Purpose: Makes fire burst from your wand.

Dumbledore use this to get rid of the Inferi in Riddle's cave.

Spell: Aguamenti

Purpose: Water shoot out the end of your wand.

Harry uses this spell in the Deathly Hallows.

Spell: Obliviate

Purpose: To remove someone's memory.

Hermione uses this spell on two Death Eaters who tracked them after Bill and Fleur's wedding.

Spell: Confringo

Purpose: Anything that comes into contact causes it to explode.

This curse can be very dangerous and even deadly if not used properly. ( I think Mrs Weasley uses this to kill Bellatrix )

Spell: Arresto Momentum

Purpose: To slow your fall from a very high distance.

Dumbledore saves Harry in the Quidditch match when he falls off his broom because of the Dementors.

Spell: Anteoculatia

Purpose: Anteoculatia is a hex which turns a persons hair into antlers.

Pansy Parkinson had this hex used on her.
