Andrew Carnegie was born on November 25, 1835 in Scotland. Andrew's dad was a hand loom weaver. Andrew's mom stayed at home. Money was becoming tight and food supplies dwindled in this country.



Andrew lived with his mom, dad, and little brother. Andrew's family couldn't afford to send andrew to school. Andrew was educated at home through reading and writing.

Andrew's family moved to America when he was 13 years old in hopes of a new life and fresh start. His family settled in Alleghany, Pennsylvania.











That same year, Andrew started working in a cotton factory as a bobbin boy. He made $1.20 a week to help support his family.
Andrew started to go to night school after work as a teenager to receive a formal education.


A year after working at the cotton factory, Andrew became a telegraph messenger. Carnegie earned $2.50 a week.



At age 16, Andrew advanced in his career and became a telegraph operator. This promotion gave him $5 a week.





CHO-CHO! 2 years later, Andrew began work at the Pennsylvania Railroad company as an assistant and telegrapher to a railroad superintendent, Thomas Scott.

Andrew's father passed away when Andrew was 20 years old. Andrew's dad was the breadwinner in the family. now Andrew needs to take care of his family as the oldest male in the house.






7 years later filled long hours and patience, Andrew took over Thomas Scott's position and became the new railroad superintendent.





While working all these jobs, Andrew's hard work never faded. he also learned a lot about the business world from his mentors.


Business


Andrew hoping to become richer took his job earnings and savings and started investing in companies. he invested in areas like railroad companies and telegraphs.




Andrew's investments paid off because he became very wealthy from them. He become so wealthy he decided to quit his job at the railroad company in order to start a new project.








in the 1880's, He put his Investments and life savings towards building the Carnegie Steel Factory. His factory was one of the first steel factories in america.


in 1887, Andrew married a girl named Louise whitfield. He was 52 years old and Louise was 30 years old when they tied the knot.





Cha-Ching! Andrew's steel factories brought him in a lot of money and made him into a millionaire.
Carnegie's factory produced everything needed for steel-making. This helped his company rise to the top and beat out other steel companies.


Later in time, it is said Carnegie's factory helped shape America's factory system and its Industrial era.


At the age of 57, Andrew Carnegie and his wife had their only child, Margaret Cameron.



When andrew was 61, he sold his company carnegie steel to a man named J.P morgan and retired.
J. P Morgan then merged Carnegie steel with other steel companies and created the corporation, u.s Steel. Morgan paid Carnegie $480 Million for the factory.
