Patrice Lumumba was the independence leader of Congo. After the Portuguesse were chased out the Belgians came in and took control and Lumumba got the Belgians out and this is the story of how Congo got independence from Belgium.

Now Lumumba was born on July 2 , 1925 in the Katakokombe region which was in the Kasai province. His father was a farmer and he was a part of the Tetela ethnic group and his born name was Elias Okit'Asombo it mean't heir of the cursed. Anyway Lumumba had 3 brothers and he spoke Tetela , French , Lingala , Swahili , and Tshiluba. In Leopoldvile (Kinshasa) and Stanleyvile (Kisangani) he worked as a postal clerk , and also a beer salesman. In the 1950s lots of things happened to him. First of all he got married.

And in 1955 he became regional head of Cercles of Stanleyvile and he joined the liberal Party of Belgium. That same year he got arrested for 2 years because of charges of embezzlement. He was released on July 1956 and a few years later became leader of MNC and his teamm represented MNC in the African People's Conference in Accra , Ghana hosted by Pan-African president Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana. Now let's skip to Lumumba and what he was famous for. On June 30 Congo got its independence day and lumumba led them to victory after many years.
